About

Thirty-five years of
reading markets.

Nicholas Daxelhoffer is a Zurich-based investment professional with over 35 years of experience in financial markets. A former Director at Pictet Asset Management, he was among the first practitioners in Switzerland to pursue and earn the Chartered Market Technician (CMT) designation in the early 1990s — at a time when systematic technical analysis was still considered a frontier discipline.

Drawn by the emerging academic research on the momentum factor — most notably the landmark 1993 work of Jegadeesh & Titman, who demonstrated that strategies systematically buying recent winners generate persistent excess returns — he went on to successfully launch an investment vehicle for institutional clients. The fund later fell victim to the circumstances surrounding the Global Financial Crisis, as both management and clients questioned the viability of the concept at precisely the moment it deserved most conviction.

That experience, far from diminishing his belief in momentum, deepened it. Since establishing his independent practice in 2016, Nicholas has been developing what he considers the definitive expression of his investment philosophy.

Grande Finale
01 · Strategy

A Systematic Momentum Framework

He is currently developing Grande Finale — a sophisticated quantitative research and portfolio management tool designed to capture clean momentum across markets, sectors, and stocks on a global basis, moving decisively beyond the standard look-back approach.

02 · Edge

Dissecting Alpha from Beta

Rooted in CMT principles, the framework differentiates key sections along the market cycle — drawing on the notion that the winner of the Tour de France does not win every stage, but wins on average across the race. This granular cycle awareness gathers higher-quality information than conventional approaches.

03 · Research

A Global Opportunity Lens

The research platform allows an investor or analyst to drill down the global universe of asset classes and markets, identifying investments with sound characteristics to systematically outperform — insights that are unique in approach and difficult to replicate through conventional monitoring.

Philosophy

Academic rigour.
Technical roots.
Trend as truth.

Momentum as Information Flow

Price momentum reflects the sequential absorption of new information by market participants and their behavioural resistance to revising prior views. This is not a statistical anomaly — it is a structural feature of how markets process reality.

Price Primacy

Derived indicators are information-lossy. The raw signal of price action, properly structured across cycles and timeframes, is sufficient — and superior. Everything else is a translation.

Cycle Awareness

Knowing where one stands in the market cycle — not predicting where it goes — is the foundation of sound portfolio construction. The Grande Finale framework makes this assessment systematic and repeatable.

Global Perspective

Equities, sectors, currencies and market regimes are read as a single interconnected system. Momentum does not respect borders — and neither does the research platform.
